About GDHA
Our club was first established in the mid-1980’s by a small group of heavy horse enthusiasts and originally named the Georgia Draft Horse & Mule Association (GDH&MA). Several programs were set up for members to become involved: including shoeing, grooming, harnessing, and training draft horses and mules for work and pleasure. There were field days, wagon trains, and shows where the public was invited to observe-with the main objective being social and promotional.
In 1995, the name of the organization was officially changed to the ‘Georgia Draft Horse Association’ with the purpose being much the same as the original founders – supporting and promoting the draft horse community, establishing friendly relationships between members and promoting the exchange of knowledge and ideas pertaining to draft horses.
