GEORGIA DRAFT HORSE ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER ___________________________________________________________________________ No. 4 Nov./Dec., 2003 From the President: We have finished up another year with our show at the Georgia National Fair and I really believe that this was the very best one yet. We had over one hundred horses exhibited and lots of quality across the board. It was sure nice to look out and see horses from all over the south and mid-west competing in Perry, Georgia. Just to see seven unicorn hitches in one ring is an awesome sight. Thank you Lawana Smith for pulling out all of the stops and making this the best of them all! Every year Lawana puts this show together so that we can all go down and play with our animals and just keeps on getting better and better. As we finish up this year we are starting to look forward to the next year. We really need to work on a more balanced calendar of events and would love for you to make suggestions for what you would like to see and how you could help to make that happen. We need to look to the future with positive attitudes to make it a fun time all next year. Get your ideas in mind and bring them with you to our January meeting so we can get 2004 started out right. Mark your calendars for December the twentieth for our Christmas party at the farm of the Lippitts in Cumming and for January twenty-fourth for our first meeting of the New Year. We would love to see a tremendous turnout for both dates. Berta has lots of fun planned for Christmas so bring the entire family and help us to make this a nice family outing. We need to see more youth involvement so please bring them with you. Drop us a line about what you have been doing with your horses this past year so we can let our membership know about it. I know that you are busy as bees around honey so just let us know so we can write it up and let everybody know what you are doing. Share with us if you how you use your horses so we can pass that on also. Calls come in from people needing horses to do this and that and maybe we can send them your way. Stay in touch and get to know our membership. I look forward to seeing you over the Holidays. Charley Lee Thumblatch Farm GA Draft Horse Show/Perry (Tenth Anniversary) The Perry show was a great success and I would like to express my appreciation and say, "THANK YOU" to all those who worked so hard to make it happen. I was very touched by the dedication of the show to Kim and also the lovely plaque presented in his memory. He would have been very pleased with this show. I can't mention every one, but two new members really worked hard: Chuck Walker, who manned the gate and Bonnie Maiden who started in the barn on Wednesday by placing cards on reserved stalls, passing out trophies & ribbons Thursday & Friday and taking care of the cake and refreshments after the show Friday night. I only hope they renew their membership. The draft ponies were a real crowd pleaser and made extra time for all exhibitors between classes. Please see the list of winners and be sure to congratulate them. Again, thanks to all of you who participated in whatever capacity. It was a wonderful anniversary. Lawana (Smith) 2003 Perry Show-Chairman ************************************ PARADE OF BREEDS: I would like to thank our members who have volunteered to take their horses to the Parade of Breeds in January.
